Our Neighborhood

Village of Ardencroft

The Village of Ardencroft is the municipality that serves the residents of Ardencroft. It is governed by the Village Assembly in a direct democracy by the residents. The Village’s elected officers and committee members oversee operations of the Village.

The Ardencroft Association

The Ardencroft Association is a nonprofit organization led by three directors and is independent of the Village of Ardencroft government. The Association is the “landlord” for all the land within Ardencroft. It handles lease agreements, collects land rent from each leaseholder, and pays county and school taxes on behalf of the residents of Ardencroft.

The Other Ardens

The Villages of Arden and Ardentown are independent and adjoining municipalities created under the same single tax principles promoted by Henry George in the late 1800’s. While each Arden Village has their own officers and committee members, we share a single sense of community and cooperation.

New Castle County

Ardencroft is one of the 15 municipalities in with New Castle County. We are subject to the laws of the County, pay property taxes to the County, and benefit from County services such as the police protection by the New Castle County Sheriff’s Office.
