Village Charter

Our Charter establishes us as an incorporated municipality, recognized under Delaware State law, and grants us the powers to make our own laws and policies, so long as they are no less stringent than County or State laws, to which we must conform. To make changes to our charter, the village must most vote on the change, and then pass it on to the Delaware General Assembly for votes in the House and Senate before it becomes law with the Governor’s signature. Ardencroft was incorporated with its first charter in 1976. In 2023 and 2024, the village revisited and updated the Charter to meet modern needs. Please review our current Village Charter.

Ordinances

Ordinances are our local municipal law. To change, remove, or add ordinances, the proposed language must be read and discussed at a meeting of the Village Assembly and tabled until the following meeting for another reading and a vote. The following is a list of current ordinances.

  1. Meetings and Government Procedures
  2. Officers and Regular Committees
  3. Transfer of Select Local Service Functions to New Castle County
  4. Vehicles, Equipment, and Parking
  5. Leaseholder and Village Street Frontage Maintenance Obligations
  6. Tree Removal
  7. Change in Leasehold Grade
  8. Leashing of Dogs
  9. Littering
  10. Hunting and Trapping
  11. Municipal Fine Structure

Resolutions

A resolution, like an ordinance, is a legislative act of the Village Assembly. A resolution is a
formal decision of the Village Assembly taken by a vote and recorded in the minutes of a
meeting. These are the active Resolutions from available meeting minutes deemed not superseded by other decisions.
