Welcome

To the Village of Ardencroft

Founded in 1950 and incorporated in 1976, Ardencroft is the newest of The Ardens. With 95 leaseholds and a population of 230, Ardencroft was the last of 17 single-tax enclaves founded between 1894 and 1950. Its founders worked intentionally to create a racially integrated village. Almost a third of its land is preserved. It is located in New Castle County in the State of Delaware.  Like the adjacent villages—Arden and Ardentown—Ardencroft attracts a lot of artists, artisans, and other interesting folks seeking a unique and engaging community.

Ardencroft is a direct democracy, with a town meeting form of government. Its governing body is called the Village Assembly, which is made up of anyone residing in the Village for 30 or more days who is 18 years of age or older. Village Assembly meetings are open to the public and elections of officers and committee members are held in May. Village Assembly meetings are held at 7:00 pm at the Buzz Ware Village Center on the third Monday of February, May, September, and November.

The Ardencroft Association is a nonprofit corporation and a separate entity from the government. All land, except roadways is owned by the Ardencroft Association and residential lots are rented to leaseholders in 99 year leases. The Association is administered by three directors. The Association handles lease agreements and receives land rent.
